URBAN AGRICULTURE FOR GROWING CITY REGIONS. CONNECTING URBAN-RURAL SPHERES IN CASABLANCA
- How to connect urban-rural spheres within a city region? The book put the/a new issue of integrated urban development on the agenda of urban research and practice. Dealing with rapid urbanization processes in Grand Casablanca Urban Agriculture is treated as an enhanced topic/expanding field: as part of the urban and as component of the urban food system. It includes all forms agricultural activities in the city region.
- The book represents both the process and the multidimensional outcome of a 9 year running transdisciplinary research project and is itself a highly integrated result. Its structure mirrors the knowledge types of transdisciplinarity: analytical knowledge, target knowledge and transformation knowledge. Furthermore it shows how the stimulation of synergies between the urban and the rural can work – morphologically, as systemic relationship of water, food, open space and climate, as collaboration between different societal actors and how design solutions can support these processes. Concrete strategies and actions partly gained from Pilot Projects are introduced providing changing practices beyond the scientific and life-world divide. Including the disciplines of landscape architecture, urban economy, geography, social science, climatology, process engineering amongst others the work reflects an attempt for blurring the borders: by means of transsectorial writing, in binational german-moroccan multiauthorship.
- The book is essential reading for researchers, planners, practitioners, policy makers and all who are interested in problemoriented integrated research towards stimulation of transformation.
